The Benefits of Administering Warm IV Fluids

More and more the medical community is recognizing the value of warming intravenous fluids both for patient comfort and to reduce the occurrence of perioperative hypothermia. Mild perioperative hypothermia is linked with increases in morbidity and mortality, according to a 2011 report published in The Ochsner Journal. Both active and passive warming measures are necessary to reduce incidences of clinical hypothermia and that includes the use of warm IV fluids.
